Discover Brussels

City trip

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and officially also the capital of Europe. This is where the main committees of the European Union are located. And that brings a very international atmosphere, making Brussels a metropolis par excellence. The cosmopolitan character is also reflected in magnificent buildings and chic fashion stores. But that does not come at the expense of the authentic Belgian coziness. You can still find it in abundance in the squares and pubs.

Grand Place and Atomium

Brussels is known for its historical heritage. You will mostly find this at the Grand Place, a square in the center with the impressive town hall and adjoining Guild Houses. The magnificent Gothic town hall, besides its beautiful architecture, also has on top a statue of Archangel Michael slaying a dragon. You will also find the 13th-century Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in the old center, which you can also visit. The statues in the cathedral and the over 25-meter-high vaults are a feast for the eyes. A more modern attraction is the Atomium, just outside the center. This steel construction from the 1958 World Expo is open to the public and displays a crystal structure magnified no less than 165 billion times.

Chic shops and terraces

In Brussels, you can also shop in a very atmospheric setting. One of the most famous shopping streets is Avenue Louise, with chic shops for major, exclusive brands. In the side streets, there are all kinds of smaller boutiques from emerging designers. In Nieuwstraat and the Shopping Mall City 2 department store, you will find the well-known retail chains. After shopping, you can relax wonderfully in one of Brussels' cozy squares. For example, take a seat on a terrace at the Oude Graanmarkt and unwind with an authentic Belgian beer.
