Discover Rostock

City trip

Rostock is the largest city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is a true port city on the Baltic Sea with a city beach and old fishermen's houses that now house shops. You can endlessly stroll along the quays and join delightful fish restaurants. In the historic center, you can visit attractions from the 12th century and memories from the time when Rostock was a prosperous Hanseatic city.

Town hall and St. Mary's Church

One of the many city walks takes you along the highlights of Rostock. You will pass by the impressive Rathaus (13th-century town hall). This, like many other buildings from the Hanseatic period, is constructed of typical red bricks. The Marienkirche is a Gothic church from the 13th century, where you can admire various magnificent art treasures. On the edge of the historic center, you visit the Kröpeliner Tor. This six-story city gate is part of the old city wall that was meant to protect the residents of Rostock in the Middle Ages. The gate now houses a museum where you can learn everything about the city's origins.

City beach and Hanse Sail

The tourist attraction of Rostock is the harbor and city beach in Warnemünde. In the harbor, there is a busy coming and going of sailboats and fishing boats. There is a friendly atmosphere on the terraces and in the restaurants by the harbor. You can enjoy delicious fish dishes there. During the Hanse Sail in August, hundreds of sailboats arrive, from historic schooners to modern yachts. It is then a big celebration in the city with stages and shows.
