Hamburg is the second city of Germany. Hamburg also has the largest port in the country and has therefore developed into a cosmopolitan city with a vibrant center and many attractions. Discover Hamburg and completely relax during a canal tour on the Alster Lakes.

Altster in Saint Michael

Hamburg has a splendid inner lake, the Alster. It was created in the 13th century as a water reservoir for the city. Nowadays, it is a recreational lake where you can take extensive cruises. Or rent a boat and set off on your own. Or take a harbor tour. Because with its immense harbor, Hamburg is Germany's gateway to the world. The view over the harbor with large ships is also magnificent. Also, visit the baroque St. Michael's Church. It has a 132-meter high tower that offers an impressive view over Hamburg. In the church, you can also see the multimedia HamburgHIStory with all the highlights from the city's 1,000-year history.

Warehouse District and New Wall

Hamburg is a true harbor city. You can notice it from the buildings in the Altstadt and the markets by the water. The old harbor warehouses, or Speicherstadt, are now used as shops, galleries, small restaurants, and museums like the Spice Museum with exhibitions about spices that were traded in the harbor. For art, you go to the Hamburger Kunsthalle. There, you can admire works by great artists like Rembrandt and Monet. Or discover the shops of Hamburg. In the Marktstrasse of the Carolinenviertel, you'll find trendy boutiques, while the Neuer Wall mainly offers large fashion brands and luxury products.
