Amersfoort is a city of monuments. The rich medieval history lives on in no fewer than 350 monuments, each with its own story. And a green city. City walls and churches

In the Middle Ages, Amersfoort was protected by city walls with city gates. The remnants of these can still be seen clearly in the Koppelpoort and the Kamperbinnenpoort, among others. Within these ancient walls, you can visit the historical landmarks of Amersfoort, such as the 98-meter-high Lieve Vrouwetoren, the Sint Joriskerk, and the Sint-Franciscus-Xaveriuskerk. Parks and gardens

As the Greenest City of Europe (2007), Amersfoort has a reputation to uphold. You can find a lot of greenery not only in the center but also on the city walls. Outside of these, you can take beautiful walks through parks and gardens. Park Randerbroek, for example, is an estate with river dunes and special trees, plants, and animals, including more than 30 species of birds. At the Center for Nature and Environmental Education, you can learn all about the remarkable nature in and around Amersfoort.
