One of Europe's oldest zoos

Experience Zoo Antwerp

Day among the animals

Zoo Antwerpen is a monumental city zoo with exotic animal species, mainly from the former colony of Belgian Congo. The park dates back to 1843, making it one of the oldest zoos in Europe with over 5,000 animals. You can see elephants, lions, okapis, gorillas, giraffes, and you walk through one of the most beautiful 19th-century gardens in the world.

City center and nature conservation

At Zoo Antwerpen, you can walk through Hippotopia on a wooden walkway through a marsh with hippos, Dalmatian pelicans, tapirs, and beavers. In the Bird Building, you can see over 45 species of birds. The zoo also has newborns, as Zoo Antwerpen participates in a breeding program that helps prevent endangered species from becoming extinct. The park is located in the middle of Antwerp and is also the green heart of the city. By visiting the zoo, you also contribute to the preservation of nature on Earth, as part of the proceeds go to scientific research and conservation.
