Discover Hoorn

Hoorn (also known as the city of the 'Cabin Boys of Bontekoe') has a rich history. At times you can experience the atmosphere of the 17th and 18th centuries here, in which the powerful East India Company maintained trade relations with Asian countries through shipping.

Museums

Hoorn has no fewer than 5 museums that are well worth a visit. For distant history, go to the Westfries Museum. Are you interested in the more recent past? Then visit the Museum of the Twentieth Century. Or take a journey through time with the Hoorn-Medemblik steam tram. Still not finished exploring? A visit to the Poster and/or Toy Museum is also definitely worthwhile.

Harbor

Be sure to visit the harbor. Here, too, you can experience a piece of history. It seems as if time has stood still. Admire the moored ships and take a seat on a cozy terrace.

Sightseeing and shopping

In the center of Hoorn you will find all sorts of major shopping streets with charming side streets where the most fun shops are located. Not a shopping fan, but do you enjoy sightseeing? Then take an extensive city walk: the best way to get to know Hoorn.

Annual events

Visit the Hoorn City Festivals on the 3rd weekend of June and enjoy singing, dancing, art, and culture, which are displayed on various indoor and outdoor stages.
Admire the beautiful begonia flower carpet laid each year on the Roode Steen in August, or visit the extensive Hoorn Fair this same month.
In the last weekend of October, you can enjoy the most beautiful clippers, tjalks, and botters during the Bontekoe race, which is organized annually to mark the end of the sailing season.
On a weekly basis, you can visit the (tourist) cheese market almost every Thursday.
