Discover Aachen

City trip

Aachen is a vibrant city, nestled between the green hills of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city is known for its healing sulfur baths and bustling social life. In the summer, the squares fill up, and the city takes on an almost Mediterranean atmosphere.

Cathedral and kings

In Aachen, you can visit many sights that date back to the deep Middle Ages. The city was the favorite residence of Charlemagne, who had a residence there in the 9th century. This is the Aachen Cathedral, now a bishop's church and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A magnificent building that combines Byzantine, Gothic, and Baroque styles. Opposite the cathedral, you can visit the 14th-century town hall. In the coronation hall of this historic town hall, the Roman-German kings of Germany were crowned.

Sulfur baths squares

One of the things you absolutely must do in Aachen is take a medicinal sulfur bath. Aachen has more than 30 sulfur baths that were already used by the Romans. Treat yourself to a 'cure' and allow yourself to be thoroughly pampered in these invigorating baths. Afterwards, in the summer, you can enjoy the vibrant nightlife. The squares, terraces, and restaurants then fill up, and the atmosphere is downright festive and cheerful. You feel as if you are in Italy rather than Germany.
